Bye Bye Burqa

So France have finally passed their own "Burqa Ban" and have set an example that the rest of the Western World needs to follow. While other European countries such as Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain either have or are in the process of passing similar laws. Why is more of Europe or even the world not following suit? Many politicians use the veil of religious freedom to show support for, or shy away from the issue, however most politicians are unenlightened when it comes to Islam and the issues and injustices surrounding it. The burqa issue is hardly about religious freedom, it's about women's rights and public safety.

The burqa is nothing more than a material ball and chain tied to Muslim women. A symbol of oppression that Muslim women are forced to wear at all times by their husbands, fathers and brothers under penalty of public gang rape, beating and honour killing. This is all "justified" in the eyes of Islamic men, who see women who do not wear the burqa as nothing more than ungodly whores (who clearly require a good raping to put them in-line).

Unfortunately, Islam is designed to favour men and oppress women. The Quran is full of sexist material and can be summed up by one simple line pulled directly from it.

“A woman is worth one-half a man.” 2:282.

While there are many other discriminatory and sexist remarks riddled throughout the holy book of Allah, this one quote really makes the chauvinism and closed-mindedness shine through. However, I would like to see how well two women would hold up against one man in a Sharia court, for example, following logic two women would be worth one man, but logic in a Sharia court? I'll go right ahead and use to popular term "LOL".

If I were to walk around the streets of Melbourne's CBD with a with a ski mask covering my face, it wouldn't be long until local law enforcement would apprehend me and demand I remove it. The burqa is essentially just a loose fitting ski mask, then why do people who wear it get given a free pass? Even if I wore it for non-religious reasons, my identity would be hidden and no-one could question it. Anyone could walk around with a burqa on and be hidden in plain sight. Criminals, wanted fugitives, terrorists, stalkers and the like could all use this religious loophole to move where they please hiding in Muhammad's heavy shadow. This is why concealing your identity in a public place is generally not allowed, and needs to apply to everyone for our own protection.

It's about time politicians in positions of power proposed plans to pass in parliament regarding Australia following suit with many European countries and banning anyone from sporting headwear that covers the face. The burqa and niqab are all I am calling on to be outlawed. The hijab does not cover the wearers face and is fine to wear in public, so Muslim women can still express their religion if they so wish. Penalties need to be put in place for anyone caught wearing face covers in public, and even larger penalties for anyone who forces a woman to wear a burqa in public.

Some people believe that "burqa banning" is a bad idea because it will make Muslim husbands lock up their wives keep them from going out in public or being seen by non-family members. All this because of a law that says people can't hide their identity.

GO ISLAM! RELIGION OF PEACE, FREEDOM AND EQUALITY.....................

Team Sports, Scourge?

It's AFL Grand Final day here in Australia, and everyone seems to be watching. From those five douches from school with rats tails and faux hawks, to Uncle Barry sporting his blue wife-beater and can of VB, to Nanna in her Collingwood guernsey, scarf, and beanie. People from all walks of life seem to come together in the name of the game. Or do they? Is sport really as much of community strengthener as we are lead to believe?

People often fight over sports results, umpire's decisions etc. One only has to look at the United Kingdom to see how team sports can have an adverse affect a society. It seems to be a modern adaption to our ancient, tribal urges to support and fight for your tribe. People sit on the sidelines in the stadium, drinking, screaming obscenities etc. We have all seen how people act while watching football on the television as well. Somehow these people have the misconception that "the little people inside the television can hear what I yell at them."

If anything team sports strengthens segregation between states and areas within a state. Supporters of one team often befriend those who support the same team. When someone who passionately supports team A meets someone who passionately supports team B, there is an instant negative connection between the two. Especially if they just so happen to meet at a game between their respective teams.

So why do you ask, do people support any teams if they are such a bane to society? Well I went ahead and asked some fervid football followers exactly why they support their respective teams.

M1ND Why do you support Collingwood?

    • R- i was born into a ridiculously one-eyed collingwood supporting family. i didn't have a choice lol. + they're an amazing team and awesome sportsmen ^-^
      33 minutes ago
    • M1ND- So you were indoctrinated by your parents to support them?
    • R-
sort of. i barracked for geelong when i was a little tacker. because i liked cats lol
but as i grew up i just started going for collingwood, once i really understood the game i guess. as a team, they're so superior in every way haha i, somewhat, had my parents influence. but then again, i didn't..
    • M1ND- If they were superior, wouldn't they win EVERY game, and EVERY premiership?
    • R- what's the fun in that? haha
why you picking on the Victorians man, you got a grudge or what? >.<
      28 minutes ago
    • M1ND- I'm not picking on anyone. All I'm doing is trying to get you to rationally justify your support for a sports team.
    • R-
maybe it's just the excitement? everyone is passionate about something right, it just so happens that a vast majority of this country are passionate about AFL. collingwood were a huge influence on my childhood and i, naturally, just followed in my parents footsteps and chose to barrack for them as well.
AFL players are super fit machines, and a good game is definitely worth watching. that feeling of sitting on the edge of your seat watching the points go up and down. hoping and, dare i say, praying that your team will kick a sufficient amount of points to win you that so desperately sought after game in order to get you to the grand final.

it's really just a matter of interest i think.
although i know many people that don't watch a game of AFL all year but will watch the grand final..
    • M1ND- If your team wins, how do you benefit?
    • R- it's more just a feeling of pride for your team dude. if they're a team you barrack for, when they win, you feel happy. for the fact that they've won.
    • M1ND Aren't there more important things to support, follow, and have pride in?
      Things that, kind of, matter.
    • R- sure. but don't you think that's really a matter of opinion. i'm passionate about many things.
football is just one of those things.
    • M1ND- I'd say it's quite objective to say that football doesn't matter. How does it affect anyone other than the players, coach, and the team's board of director?

C- CMONN PIES FINISH EM OFF!!! GET FUCKED ST KILDA!!

  • C likes this.

    • C- cos im a collingwood supporter!!!
    • M1ND- Okay, fair, and out of curiosity. Why do you support Collingwood?
    • C- Becos were the best! :)
    • M1ND- Why?
    • C- been supporting them since i was 8
      about an hour ago ·
    • M1ND- Okay. So. Why did you decide to support them when you were 8?
    • C- dunno fell in love with them an loved them ever since!!!
    • M1ND- So you'd say you just chose a team for no reason other than that you decided to chose them?
    • C- no man i just fell inlove with them, its hard to explain. i love football and i love collingwood, not much else to it
      about an hour ago ·

M1ND Why do you support Geelong?

    • J- because when i was a kid gary ablett senior was like a god... just never stopped following them...
    • M1ND So he played football for them? So you're more of a Gary Ablett Senior supporter, than a Geelong supporter?
    • J- i was. then i grew into a geelong supporter... why do you ask?
    • M1ND- I'm trying to get people to rationally justify their support for a sports team.

As you can see, no one seems to have a truly objective reason to be showing support for what team they do. I'm sure it relates back to my previous statement regarding tribal tendencies. So don't waste your time on team sports. Support and follow things that matter like government legislation and government policies, things that actually have an affect on you, your family, and your friends.

The Social Tolerance of Obesity Epidemic.

Excuse me humanity, but at what point did being overweight become a good thing?
When did we come across a miracle cure or prevention for diabetes, heart problems and stroke?
With the Western World undergoing what some may call a "Falstaffian revolution", where is the logic and common sense in our society? Obesity in anyone causes a massive variety of health and social issues, often with horrific consequences.

In the last 20 years obesity rates in the US have increased 400-500%, and childhood obesity has increased 200%, and what do we have to tackle this?
"I'm big and I'm proud"
"Fat pride"
"Bigger is better"
There are groups of people attempting to remove the social issues related to obesity, so people don't tease them, don't segregate them, however this isn't going to get rid of the tragic health issues related to obesity.
It's downright cruel that we are trying to tell children that being fat is okay, and they should have pride in their size. No person should be proud of their obesity. They need to be placed into the mindset that they need to attempt to lose weight, or they will die. Anyone who is overweight and nonchalant about it, really needs a proverbial kick in the ass (which I'm sure wouldn't be hard to miss), as well as anyone who is furthering the stigma.

Health is one true asset that really means something. We have no sympathy for smokers, no sympathy for drinkers, and should not show any sympathy for people who are overweight, and make the choice not to do anything about it.

Why?

Why must all the people with a message die? Why can't Justin Timberlake get shot? Why can't Akon get pancreatic cancer? Why do all the geniuses die, but the morons manage to stick around?
